DETAILS OF
PROJECT GEM
Project
GEM is a seven year, vertically accelerated
program in mathematics. It is offered each year
to a select group of Broward County middle
school students. Eligible students are
identified during their fifth grade year and
entry occurs ONLY at the sixth grade level
because of the program’s sequential nature.
Students
qualify for placement in the program based on
their fifth grade FCAT mathematics score. The
GEM program is designed to challenge students
who are interested and talented in mathematics
by providing them the opportunity to vertically
accelerate through the district’s honors
mathematics program, (e.g. completing Advanced
Placement Calculus by the end of their sophomore
year). During their junior and senior years,
they may participate in a dual enrollment
mathematics program, receiving as many as 12
credits in college level mathematics.

TEQUESTA TRACE ELECTIVE
COURSE OFFERINGS
Students
will choose from the following elective courses unless
they are required to take Reading in grades 7 and 8. Every
effort will be made to give students their first choice.
However, scheduling conflicts may preclude the first
choice. Due to enrollment fluctuations and the number of
students choosing a course, some elective courses may not
be offered. It is important, therefore, to carefully
consider alternative elective choices.
