begins at 8:45 a.m. Students can enter building at 8:30 a.m.
School ends at 3:15 p.m. everyone must be off campus by 3:45

As part of the entry requirements for 7th and 8th
grade and in accordance with
Florida Statute
232.032, your
child will need to have the following immunizations on file:
Hepatitis B series (3 doses)
Measles Vaccine 2nd dose (preferably MMR)
Tetanus-Diphtheria Booster
As your child receives his/her
updated immunizations, please submit the original Florida 680
form to our Guidance Department. Our summer hours are, Tuesday
through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Pass the Park and turn right on Tequesta Trace- school will be on
the right.
From I-595 East:
Take I-595 west to I-75 south (Miami).
Exit Royal Palm Blvd. west (Exit #8).
Continue west on Royal Palm Blvd. to Weston Road (traffic light at
intersection).
From Weston Road continue west on Royal Palm Blvd. approx. 1.7
miles and turn right on Island Way.
Stay in left lane and turn left at first road (Tequesta Trace).
School will be on the left approx. 1/2 mile.
From I-595 East:
Take I-595 west to I-75
south (Miami).
Exit Royal Palm Blvd. west (Exit #8).

(approx. 1 1/2 miles).

Take 136 Avenue to 14 Street (14 Street becomes Indian Trace when
you cross over I-75).

The
Parent Advisory Council addresses school-wide issues. It serves
as a liaison between school, various school organizations, and
the community. It advises the principal in matters pertaining to
the school, assesses the school's needs, evaluates programs
designed to meet those needs, and participates in the
development of the school's annual report.

Parents are encouraged to participate in PTA at Tequesta Trace
Middle School. Parents involved in the education of their
children increase their chance for success. PTA sponsors various
programs and activities throughout the year which enhance the
relationship between parents, teachers, and students.

By state law, every
public school in Florida must have a School Advisory Council.
The Tequesta Trace Middle School team includes representatives
from the following groups: administrators, teachers,
non-instructional personnel, community school, parents,
students, and community businesses. The SAC meets monthly to
formulate ways to foster improvement within the school.

Tequesta Trace
Middle School honors students who demonstrate improvement,
excellence, accomplishment, and good citizenship. Parents are
urged to join the faculty and staff in celebrating the special
achievements of our students.

Students with a
grade point average of 3.8 or 4.0 are honored for their academic
success each grading period. Students with a 4.0 are invited to
a quarterly celebration hosted by the principal and support
staff. Special certificates are awarded to all honorees.

Students who earn a
grade point average of 3.5 or higher will receive recognition for
their achievements .

Teachers nominate
students on a monthly basis who have demonstrated exemplary
citizenship and school service. School certificates, letters of
congratulation, and other remembrances are presented, and a
group picture of each month's citizens is prominently displayed.
A special principal's celebration is held quarterly to honor
these outstanding students.

Tequesta Trace
Middle School offers its students opportunities to participate
in a variety of extracurricular activities. Parents and students
are encouraged to consider the merits of becoming involved in
this segment of school life. These activities can broaden
student choices of positive leisure time activities, extend
their cultural horizons, and develop in them a wide range of
experiences appropriate for children of this age level. Brief
descriptions of a variety of activities follow.

The Student Government
Association is an organized group of students whose main purpose
is representing the opinions and desires of the students of a
given school. In addition, the Student Government Association
will encourage scholarship, citizenship, and social growth by
sponsoring a variety of projects in both the school and
community. Elections for officers will be October 1st.
Meetings are twice a month and all students may attend. These
meetings are announced ahead of time so students may attend.

Students in all
areas of the curriculum compete in county, state, and some
national competitions. These include spelling bees, literary
fair, Invent America competition, social studies fair,
mathematics competitions, and fine arts competitions.

In order to
encourage students to be well-rounded, Tequesta Trace Middle
School offers several interscholastic sports teams for students
in grades seven and eight. These teams participate in
volleyball, basketball, soccer, track, and softball competitions
with other schools. A cheerleading team is chosen from students
in grades six, seven, and eight.

National Junior Honor Society is
a national organization that promotes appropriate recognition
for students who reflect accomplishments in the areas of
scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service.
Seventh and eighth grade students who have a cumulative GPA of
3.6 or above and exemplary behavior are recommended for
membership by their teachers after the third quarter of the
school year. Students must submit a personal resume that
demonstrates completion of the five areas of recognition as
mentioned above (scholarship, character, leadership,
citizenship, and service.) Resumes are reviewed by the Faculty
Council and students are notified of their acceptance into NJHS.
Induction Ceremony is held in May of each school year. Active
members of NJHS must maintain the standards by which they were
selected. The chapter requires that the students maintain a 3.6
GPA and satisfactory or above marks in conduct. Each member is
required to earn 50 service hours or more for the school year.
Regular chapter meetings are held on the first and third Friday
of each month. All members are required to attend the meetings,
or bring a written excuse from parents, or guardians. Yearly
dues are $10.00 and NJHS shirts may be purchased at a cost of
$10.00. (Dues are mandatory, shirts are not.) The Tequesta Trace
Chapter of National Junior Honor Society is a very active
student organization. The chapter has earned numerous awards for
their school and community related projects. Mrs. Jessica Cooper
is the current Faculty Advisor for NJHS.

The peer counselors
are available to help tutor fellow students, parents can call to
request help. Peer Counselors are also available to counsel
students on everyday issues and educate students to solve
problems through conflict mediations. (Help forms are available
in all classrooms)

The Tequesta
Trace Middle School Chapter of Florida Future Educators of
America is a student organization that encourages students to
consider career opportunities in education. Members are provided
with knowledge and experiences which develop qualities and
aptitudes basic to successful teaching.
MEMBERSHIP:
Students in grades six-eight are invited to join. Active members
are those who have and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and
demonstrate satisfactory conduct. Regular meetings are held on
the second and fourth Monday of each month. Members are required
to attend all chapter meetings unless they have a written excuse
from parents, guardians, or teachers. Dues are $5.00 for the
school year. A membership pin will be given to students upon
receipt of their dues. Shirts are not required, but may
be purchased for $10.00.
Active members
are required to earn 40 service hours for the school
year. The chapter plans and coordinates school and community
projects that will enable students to earn such service hours.
The Tequesta Trace members of FFEA are invited to attend the
Fall, Winter, and Spring Rallies hosted by the High School
Chapters of FFEA. Transportation to the Rallies is the
responsibility of each member.
The Tequesta
Trace Chapter of FFEA has earned numerous awards at past County
FFEA Competition Conferences. Mrs. Jessica Cooper is the current
faculty advisor of FFEA.

Students compete in
Spanish versions of games, like Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit,
Spelling Bees, and Vocabulario, against other Broward County
middle schools.

Gang Resistance
Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) is an eight week program
designed to end gang violence across our nation. The curriculum
is taught through social studies class by trained uniformed
police officers and targets seventh and eighth grade students.

A student
organization that encourages participation to be involved in
activities that promote cultural diversity, awareness, and
appreciation. The overall theme of the organization is
"Embracing, Celebrating, and Demonstrating Diversity".

Students may
telephone the Homework Hotline provided by the district. They
may call (954) 581-5377 Monday through Thursday from 5:00-8:00
p.m.

Students who have
lost or who find any articles are asked to come to the
Administration Office. Students are encouraged to label clothing
in order that lost items can be returned to the rightful owner.
Positive identification will be required for all items not
labeled.

The school
maintains a health clinic located in the Central Office,
available for emergencies only. Students who are too ill to
remain in class are too ill to stay in school. Parents will be
notified to pick up their children. It is important that the
Emergency and Health Cards reflect up-to-date information on
health problems, addresses, phone numbers, and emergency
contacts. No medication will be administered or dispensed to any
student without the specific authorization by the Health
Director of the Broward County Health Unit. Forms may be
obtained at the front desk.

If a student needs
to take prescription or non-prescription medication during the
school day, he/she must bring the medication and the
authorization form to the clinic. The physician must complete
each side of the medication form before medication is accepted
and permission granted. Forms are available in the main office.
School hours for
students are 8:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. Parents are asked to kindly
refrain from dropping students off before 8:15 a.m. or leaving
students on campus after 3:45 p.m. unless they are attending a
special supervised event. Campus supervision by the Tequesta
Trace Middle School staff is not available beyond these hours.

A well-balanced hot
breakfast and lunch are provided. A cold salad bar is also
available. Students may bring their own lunch from home and
purchase milk and dessert, if desired. All students must eat in
the cafetorium. When eligibility is established, students may
participate in the free or reduced breakfast and lunch program.
Parents are encouraged to instill in their children proper table
manners and respect for others while dining in the cafetorium.

A partnership
between the School Board of Broward County and the Broward
Sheriff's Office affords us the benefit of a full time School
Resource Officer. In order to maintain our campus as a safe and
trouble-free environment, the officer counsels with and educates
individuals and groups of students in cooperation with staff
members.

The Guidance Department is located in the Student Services
Office. Guidance personnel register and assist in academic
placement of all students. The Guidance Department is
responsible for interpreting group or individual test results to
parents, students, faculty, or administration. The department
supervises and coordinates all major testing during the year.
The Guidance Department schedules
conferences with students, parents, teachers, special school
services, and community agencies. If you need to request a
conference, call the Guidance Office (754-323-4420). Counselors
are available to assist students throughout the school day.

In case of extended
absences (one week or more), assignments may be requested
through Guidance. Please allow two days for these assignments to
reach the office. It is the responsibility of the parent to make
arrangements for the assignments to be taken home.

If the illness of a
student will be extends beyond a three-week period, parents must
contact the Guidance Department regarding the Homebound Program.

Parents must notify
the registrar of a student's withdrawal or transfer to another
school. The student must bring a note to the Student Services
Office authorizing his/her withdrawal or transfer at least two
days prior to the last day of attendance. On the last day of
attendance, he/she must report to the Student Services Office
prior to the first bell to obtain the appropriate forms. These
forms must be filled out by all of his/her teachers, books must
be returned, and any fees or fines must be paid. Forms should be
returned to the Student Services Office for final clearance
during the last period of the school day.

Students who
receive "excused" absences are expected to make up all work
missed. For each day of absence, students have two days to make
up work. However, any previously assigned work due during the
absence is due the day of return. According to school board
policy all assigned work missed during an "unexcused" absence
will receive a grade of "0" and cannot be made up for credit.

When students are
absent, parents must call the Attendance Office 754-323-4402 or
send a note to the child's first period teacher. Absence due to
illness, death, religious holidays, or subpoena must be reported
the day before, the day of, or the day following the absence.
Calls and notes must specify the name of the student, date of
absence, and reason for absence. If a student is marked absent
by a teacher and a parent call has not been received, the
Attendance Office will attempt to reach a parent at home or at
work. Robot calls will be made to parents in the evening.
Failure by a parent to contact the school by note or telephone
results in an unexcused absence. Family trips or special events
must be prearranged with the student's assistant principal at
least five days prior to the trip. Request for Permitted Absence
forms are available in the Attendance Office. Please refer to
the School Board of Broward County attendance policy.

On occasion during
the school day, situations occur which require immediate
telephone contact with parents. Also, important school
information is relayed to parents by mail throughout the year.
It is the responsibility of the parent to contact the Attendance
Office immediately when a change in home address, work telephone
number, or home telephone number occurs.

Public Telephones
The public
telephone is for emergency use only before and after school.
TOP
If students arrive
tardy to school but before 9:00 a.m., they should report to
class. Students arriving after 9:00 a.m. must report to the
Attendance Office.

Parents who wish to
remove their children from school during the day should report
to the Student Services Office. Because sixth period is a very
busy time, we request that parents arrive at least 30 minutes
before dismissal to sign students out. Only those persons listed
by parents on the parent information forms will be allowed to
remove students from school. Proper identification is required
before any child is released. Parents are requested to send
notes with students indicating the date and time their children
will be taken off campus.

Students may use
bus transportation if they live two or more miles from school.
Students must abide by rules of common courtesy and vehicular
safety at all times. The privilege to ride can be withdrawn for
disruptive or unsatisfactory conduct. All students are under the
authority of the driver while being transported and must obey
his/her requests. Food and drinks may not be consumed on the
bus. Students are to ride only the bus to which they are
assigned. Students are not permitted to change buses without the
prior clearance from the Transportation Office. Students who
miss the bus in the afternoon must report at once to an
assistant principal. Applications for empty seats for the
2008-2009 school year will be accepted after October. Students
will need to re-apply for the privilege.

Bicycle racks are
located at the north and south ends of the campus. All bicycles
should be locked securely, and students may not loiter in those
areas. Students on bicycles must not ride in the bus area or in
the interior of the school. Bicycle riders should remain alert
for pedestrians and adhere to safety rules including the wearing
of helmets. A bicycle registration form should be on file in the
School Resource Officer's office.
