WELCOME TO US HISTORY!



President Brochure Projects (Assigned 1/09/12). Rubrics were given to students, Presients were assigned and two days spent in computer lab 1/9 and 1/10 to do research. Projects are due Thursday 1/26 and presentations begin that day.
Period 1,3,6 do all 5 sections
Period 2,5 do 1-3

President’s Project Rubric ADV Due Date:
Create an Informational Brochure (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) to present to the class describing the man that held the highest office in the United States:
It must include the following information:
1. Biographical Tour-Briefly describe the background of your President. Give only important facts about the President’s younger years. This should include where he was born, his education, early ambitions or political/military involvement (or lack thereof) that prepared this President to be the commander-in-chief. Use pictures, symbols, and or maps. This information should be in your own words.
2. On The Campaign Trail- Discuss the political party your president represented and describe the beliefs that are included with that party. Who were his opponents, did he win by a landslide? Find pictures, symbols, slogans to represent them.
3. In the White House- During which years did he serve? What were his major accomplishments in office? What were his failures? What was happening in the U.S. at the time of his Presidency?
4. In His Words: Choose a quotation spoken or written by this president explain why you chose this one and
why or when it was said.
5. Life After Presidency: Describe your president’s life after he left the office of the President. Was he in the public eye or did his take on a quiet life? (If your president died in office explain the events leading up to or during that time instead of life after his presidency)

You should have at least three pictures on your brochure.
Make sure your information is in Your Own Words and that you have a works cited page listing all of your sources. (websites and books) On your Works Cited page make sure to write the URL and a sentence or two about what information you found and used from each site or source. DO NOT CUT AND PASTE INFORMATION IT IS PLAGARISM.

Grading: Brochure-Can Be Typed (Neatness and creativity count) = 25points
Information (In Your Own Words)./Works cited= 25 points
Presentation= 25points=75points

dot Everyday students should enter the classroom and begin their warm up as soon as the bell rings or lose participation points. The homework/ classwork is posted on the white board on the far side of the classroom it is the student's responsibility to copy this down daily as soon as they are done with their warm up.

We also will be working on reading strategies in our daily acitivities to review and reinforce the knowledge needed to be successful on the FCAT.


SUPPLY LIST: (needed everyday)
1.Duotang Folder with clips left side for homework papers, right for completetd papers to be turned in, clips for graded papers to be kept all quarter (folder checks every quarter)
2.Spiral Notebook for warm ups which are given daily (warm up quizzes twice per quarter)
3.Red Pen for grading, pencils(#2 for tests), blue or black ink pens
4.Notebook paper daily
5.Colored Pencils, markers, or crayons (choose one and only have to bring on days told to in advance)
6.Agenda to write down daily homework (provided by school)

Grade Breakdown:
25% tests/quizzes
25% projects
50% homework/classwork

There is a makeup work table which has the assignments/worksheets missed and the warm ups missed it is the student's responsibility to get their makeup work and turn it in within the two day makeup period. (Including tests/quizzes) Any missed assignments past the two days = a zero.

AT THE END OF THE YEAR WE HAVE A (COUNTY MANDATED AND CREATED) FINAL EXAM THAT IS WORTH 10% OF THE STUDENTS FOURTH QUARTER GRADE!!
