WELCOME MESSAGE - Week of: 09/26/2011

THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE 2011-12 SCHOOL YEAR IS OFF TO A GREAT START!!!
I continue to look forward to the rest of the school year with eager anticipation!!!

Mission Statement
My mission is to provide high quality, professional instruction in mathematics in an environment that is inclusive and meets the unique needs of each student so that each student can gain a solid foundation in mathematics and an appreciation for the applications of mathematics in higher education and the real world…

Students,
Your success in mathematics will take commitment. Here is a quote that I learned in middle school, one that I have always lived by. This school year, I hope that you too will embrace its central principle.

Character Education
"The heights by great men [and women] reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Middle Grades Mathematics Grade 8 Course Description

The curriculum for Middle School Grade 8 Mathematics is designed to build on the information taught at earlier grade levels and transition into the information that will be covered in high school at the 9th grade level. This course will provide a solid foundation in fundamental middle grades topics such as fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, and percents while integrating key concepts in algebra, geometry, statistics and data analysis needed for future math courses. The curriculum is designed to have a considerable emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving. This course will include a mix of independent and group work as well as research.

What is Pinnacle Internet Viewer, PIV?

Pinnacle Logo

Pinnacle Internet Viewer is real-time grade reporting software created by Excelsior Software. It can be used to request grade reports and semester reports. It is widely used in schools across the country for parents and students to check school progress and any missed assignments.

Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV) redefines home-to-school connectivity. Real-time grade reporting means no more waiting for semester, weekly or even daily teacher reports or file downloads! Changes or an addition to student information is available instantly to both parents and students. Teachers enter grade information into their electronic gradebook and PIV organizes and formats the data for convenient viewing at any time, day or night.

The PIV service is not meant to replace direct communication between students/parents/teachers or other school staff members. If you have questions about any of the information, please discuss them with you your child first. Then have your child discuss it with their teachers. If you need further clarification, please contact the school or your child’s teacher.
