PE Volleyball

Introduction:

Volleyball, while not as popular as football, softball, basketball or soccer, is now being played on an interscholastic level in all middle and high schools. There are separate seasons for boys and girls. Some schools also offer co-ed teams.

Objectives:

  1. To obtain forty(40) minutes of cardiovascular and big muscle activity.
  2. To learn the skills necessary to participate and enjoy the game of volleyball
  3. To learn the rules, teamwork and rotations involved in the game of volleyball.
  4. To learn how to coexist with classmates and work together as a team.
  5. To learn and practice the situations that arise in the game to make your team successful.

Individual Skills Involved:

  1. Hitting a dig.
  2. Hitting a serve.
  3. Hitting a set.
  4. Hitting a spike.

Class Volleyball Rules:

We will have six to eight players on a team. The team captain will set up the rotations. Games will be to 15 points. You can only score points when you are serving. There will be no overhand serves.

Coach Shore’s Thoughts:

Volleyball is very cost effective. It is fast becoming a dominant interscholastic sport in middle and high schools. Volleyball reaches many students that are not skilled enough to play basketball. Good hand eye coordination and jumping ability are a tremendous advantage in playing volleyball.
